This is “comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” We do not need to go to worldly books and resources to understand the Bible (although some books like concordances Bible maps and commentaries are very helpful). Thus we can understand parts of the Bible by looking to passages that have the same words or ideas in them. 1 Corinthians 2:10-14Īs Christians, we have been blessed with God’s Spiritual influence to teach us His Word. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth comparing spiritual things with spiritual. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
#SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD IN REVELATION HOW TO#
In it were seven lamps that John describes: “are the seven Spirits of God.” But what are these seven Spirits? This is when it is important to remember God’s own instructions on how to study the Bible:īut God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. In the verse above, He describes Himself as “he that hath the seven Spirits of God.” In Chapter 4 of Revelation, John, called up to Heaven by God, is given access to view the throne room of God. In the Book of Revelation, Jesus Christ dictates seven letters to the Apostle John. 5And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment and they had on their heads crowns of gold. 3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. 2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. The seven burning torches mentioned in this verse probably symbolizes seven attributes of the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 11:2–3), perhaps connected to the reference John made to seven spirits in Revelation 1:4.“And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God” - Jesus Christ, speaking to the Apostle John in Revelation 3:1 The flashes of lightning and thunder in Revelation 4:5 may also indicate that God is all powerful, authoritative, and greatly opposed to sin. It seems in view of this Mount Sinai event that lightning and thunder are signs that no one is allowed to approach God without His permission. At the same time, God set limits around the mountain and told Moses to command the people not to break through to look (Exodus 19:21–23). This phenomenon caused the Israelites below the mountain to tremble. Exodus 19:16 informs us that thunder and lightning occurred on Mount Sinai when God came down to give Moses the Ten Commandments. He tells us further that the burning torches are the seven spirits of God. He also saw seven burning torches before the throne. John tells us in this verse that he saw flashes of lightning and heard rumblings and peals of thunder. Seven fiery torches were burning before the throne, which are the seven spirits of God.
